Newbuildings Department is responsible for plan approval, newbuildings coordination, Rules development and R&D activities. The Department possesses a qualified technical staff in the several fields of the classification process scope.
Plans of ships or other floating structures are reviewed for conformity with the Rules for Classification requirements. This Rules covers hull structures and equipment, propulsion and auxiliary machinery as well as related piping systems, boilers and pressure vessels, electrical installations, automation, materials, cargo handling systems and fire protection and extinguishing.
During this period Rinave surveyors follow up the construction of the ship to confirm its compliance with reviewed plans and that the adopted manufacturing technological and workmanship procedures are in accordance with acceptable Rule requirements and practices. In this phase materials and equipments incorporated in the ship are duly controlled.
Issuance of class certificate
Upon completion of the construction including all necessary tests a class certificate is issued for the ship confirming compliance with Rules for Classification
This Department is responsible for the coordination of all ships in service activities.
After construction and delivery to the Owner the ship follows a program of annual periodical surveys to maintain her class, in cycles with a periodicity of five years. This surveys assure that the initial quality and safety standards are maintained.
Survey of conversions or repairs due to damages are also carried out as a condition for the maintenance of class.
