Certification
Having the European Union an internal market without frontiers, there was a need to harmonize the national legislation relating the safety characteristics of Recreational Crafts. Therefor on the 16th June 1994, the European Parliament and the European Union have adopted the Directive 94/25/EC, so that the barriers to free trade are removed. This Directive covers only recreational crafts of a minimum length of 2.5 m and a maximum length of 24 m, derived from the ISO standards.
Subsequent, in the 16th June 2003, the European Parliament and the European Union have adopted the Directive 2003/44/EC which amends the Directive 94/25/EC, widening its scope to include:
- Personal watercraft;
- Noise emissions;
- Exhaust emissions;
- Post constructional assessment;
- Definitions;
- and the essential safety requirements of Annex 1 were changed.
